More than 600 new HIV/AIDS cases and 13 related deaths have been reported in Sri Lanka during the first nine months of 2025.
According to the National STD/AIDS Control Program, a total of 639 HIV/AIDS cases were recorded from January to September 2025, marking a 6% increase compared to the same period in 2024, when 605 cases were reported.
Among the new cases, 68 were males and three were females aged 15–24, while the remaining cases involved individuals above 25 years of age. The male-to-female ratio of reported cases in 2025 was approximately 6:1.
During the same period, 30 HIV/AIDS-related deaths were reported. Notably, the first quarter of 2025 recorded the highest number of cases reported in a single quarter since 2009.
