The Ministry of Public Security says that over 625 kilos of drugs were recovered from the Southern Province yesterday.
The drugs were seized during operations in the Sinimodara and Ginigalkanda areas as part of investigations into the suspicious deaths of three individuals.
Four related incidents were reported in the Tangalle and Weligama areas, with another incident recorded in Sinimodara, Tangalle.
According to police, an alcohol party had been held at the relevant house on the night of the 21st. Three people who were working on building a wall at the house later fell ill and died under suspicious circumstances.
Subsequent inspections led to the discovery of over 200 kilos of suspected heroin and “ice” hidden inside a lorry parked at the premises. Another lorry, located about six kilometers away and loaded with watermelons, was also searched. It contained more than 200 kilos of drugs suspected to be heroin and ice.
Police further recovered several firearms along with the narcotics.
