Pakistan Reversed T20 World Cup Decision After Three Days of Talks With Sri Lanka – High Commissioner

Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Faheem Ul Aziz, told Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath that Pakistan reversed its earlier decision regarding the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 following three days of diplomatic discussions with Sri Lanka.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sri Lanka, the High Commissioner said Pakistan had initially decided not to take part in its scheduled match against India. However, at Sri Lanka’s request, Pakistan agreed to set aside differences and participate, praising Sri Lanka’s mediation efforts in resolving the issue.

These remarks were made when High Commissioner Faheem Ul Aziz met Minister Herath at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today (10 February), ahead of concluding his tenure in Sri Lanka.

Minister Herath expressed appreciation for the High Commissioner’s swift engagement during the three days of diplomatic talks and phone discussions. Faheem Ul Aziz also commended Minister Herath’s sustained diplomatic efforts in addressing several uncertainties surrounding the T20 World Cup.

Reflecting on his tenure, the High Commissioner said his service in Sri Lanka had been both pleasant and successful, with strong support from the Foreign Minister and the Ministry. He also noted with satisfaction that Sri Lanka conducted two fair and exemplary elections in 2024.
