Parliament to Convene from January 7 to 10, 2025

The Secretary-General of Parliament, Mrs. Kushani Rohanadeera, has announced that Parliament will convene from January 7 to January 10, 2025, following a decision made at the recent Committee on Parliamentary Business meeting chaired by Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne.

Agenda for the Parliamentary Sessions

Tuesday, January 7

  • 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.: Questions for Oral Answers.
  • 10:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.: Adjournment Debate on the “Mid-Year Fiscal Position Report – 2024” presented by the Government.

Wednesday, January 8

  • 9:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.: Questions to the Prime Minister (4 questions).
  • 10:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.: 5 Questions for Oral Answers.
  • 10:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.: Debate on various regulations and orders, including:
    • Regulations under the Imports and Exports (Control) Act.
    • Order under the Foreign Exchange Act.
    • Regulations under the Payment and Settlement Systems Act.
    • Regulation under the Casino Business (Regulation) Act.
    • Order under the Ports and Airports Development Levy Act.
    • Regulations under the Colombo Port City Economic Commission Act.
  • 5:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.: Questions at the Adjournment Time.

Thursday, January 9

  • 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.: Questions for Oral Answers.
  • 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.: Debate on:
    • Order under the Sri Lanka Export Development Act.
    • Six Orders under the Special Commodity Levy Act.
    • Notification under the Welfare Benefits Act.
  • 11:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.: Adjournment Debate to be moved by the Opposition.

Friday, January 10

  • The day is dedicated to Votes of Condolence for the late Members of Parliament Kumara Welgama, H. Nandasena, and Tudor Gunasekera.
