The President’s Entitlements (Repeal) Bill will be taken up for its second reading and debate in Parliament tomorrow, September 10.
According to Parliament, the debate is scheduled to take place from 11.30 a.m. to 3.30 p.m. The decision was made during the Parliamentary Business Committee meeting held today under the chairmanship of the Speaker.
Earlier in the day, Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne announced that the Supreme Court had determined that no provision of the Bill is inconsistent with the Constitution. Accordingly, the Court has ruled that the Bill may be enacted with a simple majority in Parliament.
