The Sectoral Oversight Committee on Infrastructure and Strategic Development is scheduled to reconvene today (July 17) to review the Sri Lanka Electricity (Amendment) Bill.
The committee first met on July 15 under the chairmanship of Member of Parliament S. M. Marikkar. Representatives from several key institutions, including the Ministry of Energy, the Attorney General’s Department, and the Ceylon Electricity Board, were present at the initial meeting.
According to a statement issued by the Department of Communications of Parliament, the committee discussed various proposals and recommendations submitted by the Public Utilities Commission concerning amendments to the Bill. Consensus was reached on several key points.
The Attorney General’s Department also presented its observations on the draft Bill. It was agreed that the draft, incorporating the approved amendments, would be printed in all three official languages and submitted for final consideration.
The Parliamentary Secretariat has confirmed that the committee will reconvene today to examine and approve the revised draft Bill.
