The Central Criminal Investigation Bureau has recovered a foreign-made pistol and five rounds of live ammunition hidden in the Meetiyagoda area following information provided by a suspect detained under a detention order.
According to Police, the suspect was arrested on June 19 in possession of the narcotic substance known as ‘Ice’ (methamphetamine).
During subsequent interrogations, investigators obtained information regarding a concealed firearm and ammunition. Acting on the intelligence, officers recovered a foreign-manufactured pistol along with five rounds of 9mm caliber live ammunition that had been hidden in the Meetiyagoda area.
Police stated that the discovery was made as part of ongoing investigations into criminal activities linked to the suspect.
The Homicide and Organized Crime Investigation Division of the Central Criminal Investigation Bureau is continuing further investigations to determine the origin of the weapon, its intended use, and whether it is connected to any organized criminal networks or other offences.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to combating drug trafficking, illegal firearms possession, and organized crime through intelligence-led operations and enhanced law enforcement measures.
