PM Harini Amarasuriya Orders Probe into School Fund Collections, Outlines Key Education Reforms

Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya has announced urgent investigations into the collection of money in schools for various purposes. She made this statement while addressing the Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education in Parliament.

Dr. Amarasuriya also outlined the government’s ambitious education reform plans, structured around five key pillars: introducing a new syllabus, developing human resources, improving infrastructure, educating the public on reforms, and implementing assessment and evaluation mechanisms. To oversee these initiatives, sub-committees will be established.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to physically inspecting schools, upgrading infrastructure, and reducing disparities between institutions to ensure effective implementation of the reforms. She further noted that steps have been taken to resume suspended construction projects, with a focus on identifying and renovating unsafe areas in schools.

The Consultative Committee discussions also addressed critical issues such as academic staff shortages, balancing teacher transfers, filling principal vacancies, and improving education administration across both provincial and national schools.
