PM Harini Amarasuriya Vows Justice in Resolving Land Issues in North and East

Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to resolving land issues in Sri Lanka’s North and East with a focus on justice, dignity, and equality for all communities.

In a statement shared on social media, the Prime Minister said a discussion on the matter was held at Parliament on Friday, with the participation of Lands Minister K.D. Lal Kantha, several Members of Parliament, and other senior government officials.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Amarasuriya emphasized that the government will not take over any disputed lands under any circumstances. Instead, she assured that appropriate measures will be taken to return the lands to their rightful owners—those who possess the original legal claims.

“Our policies must be grounded in justice, dignity, and equality for all communities,” the Prime Minister stated, highlighting the administration’s commitment to addressing long-standing grievances in a fair and transparent manner.

The discussion marks a significant step in addressing one of the most sensitive post-conflict issues in the country, particularly in regions where land ownership has been contested for decades.
