The Paddy Marketing Board (PMB) says it has purchased 305 metric tons of paddy during the first four days of its paddy purchasing programme.
PMB Chairman Manjula Pinnalanda said the highest quantity of paddy has been procured from the Ampara District.
The Board has also purchased paddy from the Northern and Southern provinces, as well as the districts of Batticaloa, Mullaitivu, Kilinochchi and Hambantota.
According to the PMB, 43 storage facilities have already been opened, while a further 143 warehouses have been prepared for operations.
Under the government’s guaranteed price scheme, Nadu paddy is being purchased at Rs. 120 per kilogram, Samba at Rs. 130 per kilogram and Keeri Samba at Rs. 140 per kilogram.
