Police Intensify Efforts to Bring Back 89 Wanted Suspects Hiding Overseas

May 29, 2026

Police Media Spokesperson, Assistant Superintendent of Police F.U. Wutler, says authorities are continuing efforts to bring back 89 suspects wanted for serious crimes who are currently abroad and subject to international red notices.

Speaking on recent operations, ASP Wutler stated that several joint intelligence-led operations conducted with foreign law enforcement agencies have already resulted in the arrest and return of multiple suspects to Sri Lanka.

According to police, eight suspects hiding in the United Arab Emirates were brought back to Sri Lanka on the night of May 27 following coordinated intelligence operations carried out with the support of UAE authorities.

Earlier, on May 22, another group of 21 suspects — including 19 men and two women — were deported from the United Arab Emirates to Sri Lanka.

Police said all suspects currently brought back to the country are being questioned by Special Investigation Units.

Investigators have revealed that among those deported from Dubai and Sharjah are individuals allegedly linked to organized crime groups, drug trafficking networks, and suspects accused of committing various crimes in Sri Lanka before fleeing overseas.

According to police statistics, Sri Lanka Police has successfully secured the return of 32 red-notice suspects since 2024.

Authorities further stated that investigations and international operations are continuing to identify the whereabouts of the remaining wanted suspects and facilitate their return to Sri Lanka through international cooperation mechanisms.
