Former Deputy Leader of the United National Party and current Parliamentarian Ravi Karunanayake says that all political parties formed on the basis of race or religion should be banned.
Speaking to the media, he stated that the growing number of such parties suggests that they are being created with motives beyond their stated objectives.
Karunanayake stressed that politics should not be conducted using race or religion, adding that such divisions only hinder national progress.
He further pointed out that in developed countries, political movements based on racial or religious identities have no place, and Sri Lanka too should move in that direction.
