Former Deputy Leader of the United National Party, MP Ravi Karunanayake, says that political parties are misusing religion and race to advance “childish arguments.”
Speaking to the media, he stressed that he strongly disapproves of such conduct and believes it is harmful to the country.
Karunanayake stated that he has already submitted a proposal to Parliament calling for a ban on political parties that are formed and sustained on the basis of race or religion.
He added that he expects the support of all stakeholders for this proposal, emphasizing that such practices are completely inappropriate for the country, its religions, and its diverse communities.
