Postal Distribution of Polling Cards Reaches 60% Completion Ahead of Local Government Elections

The Department of Posts reports that approximately 60% of official polling cards have been distributed ahead of the upcoming local government elections.

Deputy Postmaster General Premachandra Herath confirmed that the door-to-door distribution will continue until April 29. To expedite the process, the Department has also designated Sunday, April 27, as a special distribution day.

Meanwhile, the Government Printing Department announced that around 85% of the official ballot papers have been printed. Government Printer Pradeep Pushpa Kumara stated that printing is ongoing for ballot papers required by 71 local government institutions whose structures were revised by the Election Commission following recent court orders.

The printing of these ballots is expected to be completed by April 30.

A total of 17,296,330 citizens are eligible to vote in this year’s local government elections.
