A powerful bomb exploded inside a car carrying passengers near one of India’s most iconic landmarks—the Red Fort—in Delhi this afternoon.
Indian media reported that eight people were killed and 24 others injured in the blast.
The explosion occurred around 7 p.m. near a metro station close to the Red Fort. Eyewitnesses said body parts and debris from damaged vehicles were scattered across the area following the blast.
Delhi Police sources described the incident as a “very powerful explosion.”
India’s premier terror investigation agency, the National Investigation Agency (NIA), along with the National Guard, a central armed police force, has been called in to assist local law enforcement.
The explosion took place on the same day that authorities discovered a massive stockpile of 2,900 kilograms of explosives in Faridabad, Haryana—about 50 kilometers away—heightening suspicion among security agencies.
Following the attack in Delhi, security forces have been placed on high alert in Mumbai, Jaipur, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
