June 2, 2026

The nationwide “Praja Shakthi” (Community Strength) programme, aimed at implementing 1,000 development projects across 1,000 villages, officially begins today.

Minister of Rural Development Upali Pannila stated that the initiative will be carried out simultaneously in 1,000 selected Grama Niladhari divisions covering all 341 Divisional Secretariat divisions across the country.

According to the Minister, the programme is designed to strengthen rural development, improve local infrastructure, and empower communities through grassroots-level participation.

Authorities say the initiative aims to address village-level needs while promoting community-driven development projects that contribute to improving livelihoods and strengthening rural economies.

The programme is expected to be implemented through coordinated efforts involving local communities, government institutions, and regional administrative bodies.
