President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has urged world leaders to unite in addressing pressing global challenges, emphasizing that climate change, economic instability, and technological disruptions affect all, regardless of wealth or status.
Speaking at the 2025 World Governments Summit in the UAE, President Dissanayake outlined Sri Lanka’s vision for economic growth, innovation, and governance reforms. He reaffirmed the country’s commitment to sustainable development and international cooperation while calling for a collective response to transnational crises.
Highlighting the importance of social justice and the rule of law, he stressed the need for accountability, free press, and systematic support for vulnerable communities. He also underscored the urgency of financial reforms to address growing debt burdens and weaknesses in the global financial system.
President Dissanayake proposed an update to the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights, incorporating digital access and environmental rights. He also called for stronger cybersecurity measures and initiatives to counter job displacement due to automation and robotics.
Quoting Martin Luther King Jr., he urged global leaders to “learn to live together as brothers” and emphasized Sri Lanka’s commitment to rebuilding a thriving nation. Concluding his address, he made a heartfelt appeal: “Let us come together and rebuild the world.”
