President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has issued an Extraordinary Gazette Notification announcing the establishment of a Presidential Task Force to implement the country’s tourism development program.
The 28-member Task Force will be chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism, while the Deputy Minister of Tourism will serve as Vice-Chairman. The Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism has been appointed as the Secretary of the Task Force.
According to the Gazette, the initiative is aligned with the government’s policy statement, “New Tourism Industry – Attractive Destination,” which places tourism development as a top national priority to meet public expectations through rapid progress.
The government emphasized the need for a well-planned and timely strategy to boost the tourism sector, viewing it as a vital source of foreign exchange earnings. The newly appointed Task Force has been entrusted with driving the implementation of this program to ensure the sector’s sustainable growth and competitiveness.
