President Calls for Swift, Peaceful Resolution to Middle East Conflict

March 3, 2026

Anura Kumara Dissanayake has urged all parties involved in the ongoing Middle East conflict to commit to a swift and peaceful resolution, emphasizing the far-reaching consequences of the crisis on the global economy, including its impact on Sri Lanka.

The President made these remarks while addressing Parliament today (03).

He highlighted that escalating tensions in the region are already affecting global economic stability, with potential repercussions on fuel prices, trade flows and overall financial conditions. President Dissanayake stressed that smaller economies such as Sri Lanka remain particularly vulnerable to external shocks triggered by geopolitical instability.

Calling for restraint and dialogue, he underscored the importance of diplomatic engagement to prevent further escalation and safeguard global economic recovery.

The President reiterated Sri Lanka’s position in support of peace, stability and constructive international cooperation in addressing the crisis.
