President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has announced that 30,000 young people will be recruited into the public sector, with the necessary funds already allocated for the initiative.
Speaking at a public meeting in Buttala ahead of the local government elections, the President reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding employment opportunities for youth.
“We are recruiting 30,000 young people with talent and ability. The funds have been allocated, and I have seen many advertisements in newspapers. Those who apply will receive jobs,” he stated.
Expanded Welfare and Financial Support
Beyond employment initiatives, President Dissanayake highlighted efforts to strengthen welfare programs. He noted that many eligible individuals have yet to receive ‘Aswesuma’ welfare benefits, and steps are being taken to rectify this.
“We have invited applications, and through selection boards, we are working to provide new welfare benefits to 400,000 families by June,” he said.
Additionally, the government is launching a food relief program to assist the 800,000 individuals who have not received any support. Under this scheme, a Rs. 5,000 food package will be made available for Rs. 2,500 through Sathosa.
Addressing Public Sector Disparities
President Dissanayake also acknowledged inequalities in financial support within the public sector. While some employees have received salary increases and pension adjustments, a significant portion of the population continues to struggle without similar benefits.
The government’s latest measures aim to address these disparities while providing immediate relief to those in need.
