President Ranil Wickremesinghe engaged in a discussion last night (21) with the founder of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) and former Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa, focusing on the upcoming elections and future political affairs.
This meeting follows President Wickremesinghe’s instruction to the Cabinet of Ministers to prioritize preparations for the presidential election.
During the discussion, Basil Rajapaksa conveyed the SLPP’s stance regarding the upcoming elections to the President, according to political sources.
However, as no final agreement was reached between the two parties during the meeting, it has been decided to continue discussions on the matter further.
Additionally, it has been revealed that a crisis has emerged within the SLPP due to conflicting opinions among party members regarding the presidential election. Despite this, a spokesperson for the SLPP expressed optimism about achieving unity among all party members after extensive discussions with the President.
