President Anura Kumara Dissanayake yesterday reiterated that the law will be applied equally to all citizens, stressing that those found guilty of corruption will face severe punishment.
“Why do they react so strongly when we say that the law is the same for all? It is because their conscience tells them that they are criminals,” the President said, emphasizing that no individual is above the law under his government.
Speaking at a ceremony in Colombo, he further announced that the government will reclaim all houses provided to former presidents once new legislation is enacted in September.
He noted that the move is part of a broader effort to strengthen accountability and ensure justice, reaffirming that his administration will not permit exceptions to the law.
