Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasooriya met with Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi during her official visit to India in New Delhi today.
The two leaders discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation with a special focus on educational reforms and development priorities.
Prime Minister Modi extended a warm welcome to Dr. Amarasooriya and appreciated her visit, which added fresh impetus to bilateral relations and the multifaceted partnership between the two countries.
Prime Minister Amarasooriya shared with Prime Minister Modi the details of her admission to Hindu College, University of Delhi, on an ICCR scholarship in the early 1990s.
She also shared her experience of visiting a model school in Delhi yesterday (October 17, 2025), which she described as a meaningful opportunity to observe innovative educational practices.
The two Prime Ministers also discussed matters related to the welfare of fishermen in both countries. Dr. Amarasooriya emphasized the importance of protecting the livelihoods and safety of fishermen on both sides.
