The Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association (LPBOA) says the annual bus fare revision should come into effect from tomorrow (July 1), in line with the established fare revision policy.
LPBOA Chairman Gemunu Wijeratne stated that the National Transport Commission (NTC) has already been informed of the fare adjustment required under the annual revision formula.
However, he alleged that the NTC has yet to hold discussions with private bus operators regarding the proposed revision.
Wijeratne warned that if the expected fare increase is not implemented, the association will consider seeking legal action.
Responding to an inquiry by Ada Derana, an NTC spokesperson said the proposal for the annual bus fare revision has already been submitted to the Cabinet for approval.
The spokesperson added that the revised bus fares will be implemented once Cabinet approval is granted.
The annual bus fare revision is determined using a formula that takes into account factors such as fuel prices and other operating costs.
