The Minister of Labour and Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Prof. Anil Jayantha, announced today (24) that a salary increase for public sector employees is set to take place in 2025.
Speaking at a media briefing, Prof. Jayantha underscored the government’s commitment to alleviating the economic challenges faced by the public.
“If we wanted to, we could have said that the economy has collapsed… wait a little longer… tighten our belts. We can also argue that we will do it in 2026. But we will not do that. We know the hardships people are living in,” he stated.
He affirmed that a public sector salary increase is a priority and assured, “We can definitely expect a salary increase. I will present those details in the budget.”
The statement highlights the government’s intention to prioritize economic relief amidst ongoing fiscal challenges.
