PUCSL Launches Public Consultation on Proposed Electricity Tariff Revision

The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) is set to commence public consultations on the proposed electricity tariff revision tomorrow (Dec. 17).

The general public is invited to share their views on the matter virtually or in writing until January 8, 2024. Submissions can be sent to the PUCSL through the following channels:

  • Email: info@pucsl.gov.lk
  • WhatsApp: 076 4271030
  • Facebook: www.facebook.com/pucsl
  • Post: Public Consultation on Electricity Tariff, Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka, BOC Corporate Tower, Colombo 03.

The PUCSL is scheduled to announce its final decision on the proposed tariff revisions on January 17, 2025.

On December 6, the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) submitted its tariff revision proposal to the PUCSL, indicating that the existing tariffs would remain in effect for the next six months.

Under the previous government, electricity tariffs were set to be revised four times annually. However, in 2023, three revisions were implemented, while the current year saw two adjustments. The present government has limited tariff revisions to twice a year.

The proposed revisions are expected to cover the first half of 2025, with implementation anticipated in the third week of January 2024.
