The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) is expected to release its recommendation next week on the Ceylon Electricity Board’s (CEB) proposal to increase electricity tariffs by 18.3%.
The decision follows the conclusion of the public consultation period last Thursday, during which feedback was gathered from all nine provinces.
According to the PUCSL, the recommendation will be based on a comprehensive review of:
-
Public submissions,
-
The CEB’s proposal,
-
And detailed reports on electricity generation costs.
The Commission confirmed that the assessment process is now in its final stages, with a formal announcement expected soon.
The proposed tariff revision has drawn widespread public attention, as it would impact households, businesses, and industries already grappling with rising costs of living.
