The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) is set to commence oral public consultations on its proposed electricity tariff revisions from December 27. The consultations will be conducted across all nine provinces, allowing stakeholders and citizens to share their views on the tariff adjustments.
The schedule for the consultations is as follows:
- Central Province: December 27 in Kandy
- Uva Province: December 31 in Monaragala
- Sabaragamuwa Province: January 3 in Ratnapura
- North Central Province: January 5 in Anuradhapura
- Northern Province: January 6 in Jaffna
- Eastern Province: January 8 in Batticaloa
- Western Province: January 10 in Colombo
Proposed Tariff Changes
The PUCSL’s draft proposal recommends an approximately 11% reduction in electricity tariffs, which aims to provide relief to consumers. However, the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has put forth a contrasting proposal to retain the current tariff rates for the first half of 2025.
The consultations are expected to play a pivotal role in shaping the final decision on the tariff structure, reflecting both consumer and industry perspectives.
