Rainy Conditions Expected to Intensify Over Southwestern Sri Lanka

June 25, 2026

The Department of Meteorology says rainy conditions are expected to temporarily intensify over the southwestern parts of the island from tonight (June 25) and continue over the next few days.

According to the Department, several spells of showers are forecast in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western provinces, as well as in the districts of Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya.

Showers or thundershowers may also occur at a few places in the Uva Province and in the districts of Ampara and Batticaloa after 2.00 p.m.

Meanwhile, fairly strong winds with speeds of 30–40 kmph are expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills, as well as in the Northern, North-Central, North-Western, and Southern provinces and the Trincomalee District.

The Department of Meteorology has advised the public to take adequate precautions against temporary localized strong winds, lightning, and other hazards associated with thundershowers.

Residents in areas prone to adverse weather conditions are urged to remain vigilant, follow weather updates issued by the Department, and take the necessary safety measures to minimize potential damage.
