The Students’ Union of the Faculty of Management at Rajarata University of Sri Lanka claims that the state university system is facing an approximate 50% shortage of lecturers and professors, with the situation particularly severe at Rajarata University.
President of the Faculty’s Students’ Union, Thilina Nirosh, said that nearly 2,000 students are currently enrolled in the Faculty of Management, but only 12 professors are available, significantly disrupting academic activities.
He further noted that the Faculty is experiencing a 45% shortage of lecturers and professors, which has adversely affected students’ learning and research work.
“The main problem at the moment is the lack of professors to provide the necessary guidance for research activities. This has caused setbacks in students’ research work. Across the six departments of the Faculty of Management at Rajarata University, nearly 2,000 students are pursuing their studies. Unfortunately, only 12 professors are currently available to teach them,” he said.
The Students’ Union emphasized that urgent measures are needed to address the staff shortage to safeguard academic standards and ensure uninterrupted education.
