Former Deputy Leader of the United National Party (UNP), MP Ravi Karunanayake, says that the current government has failed to acknowledge the critical role played by former President Ranil Wickremesinghe in stabilizing the economy.
Speaking at a media briefing, Karunanayake criticized the government for forgetting the recent past when the country was plagued by shortages of fuel, gas, and medicine. He emphasized that it was the previous administration, led by Wickremesinghe, that resolved these crises over the past two years.
He further stated that although Wickremesinghe was defeated in the election, the country’s ongoing economic recovery is still being guided by his policies and reform program.
Karunanayake urged the government not to act hypocritically and called on it to openly acknowledge the groundwork laid by Wickremesinghe in stabilizing the economy.
