Sri Lankans have a unique opportunity to witness a rare celestial event as seven planets of the solar system align in a row, according to Prof. Chandana Jayaratne, Director of the Astronomy and Space Sciences Unit at the University of Colombo.
This remarkable alignment will be visible after sunset from today (25) until February 28. During this period, all planets except Earth will follow a common path across the sky.
NASA confirms that Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn can be observed with the naked eye, while a telescope is required to spot Neptune and Uranus.
Similar planetary alignments have occurred throughout January and February, with another event expected in August 2025, when four planets will be visible before sunrise.
