Former Deputy Leader of the United National Party (UNP) and Member of Parliament Ravi Karunanayake has alleged that two individuals acting behind the scenes are responsible for the party’s decline, likening their influence to that of “ghosts” haunting the UNP.
Speaking to the media, Karunanayake said that the UNP’s significant setback in the recent local government election was the result of the arbitrary and self-serving actions of these two figures within the party.
“The UNP, which held power in the Colombo Municipal Council for decades, lost its footing due to decisions made by these individuals. Their influence has clearly shown in the election results,” he stated.
The MP further alleged that even the voter lists were manipulated to suit their interests, contributing to the party’s poor performance.
Karunanayake concluded by saying that unless the party addresses these internal issues, its future remains in jeopardy.
