Ravi Criticizes Continued Paperwork Despite Public Service Digitization Plans

October 7, 2025

Former Deputy Leader of the United National Party, MP Ravi Karunanayake, criticized the ongoing reliance on manual signatures in government work, despite announcements to digitize public services.

Speaking to the media, he noted that some government officials are obstructing efforts to modernize and innovate the public service.

MP Karunanayake highlighted the car import process as a prime example of this issue, describing it as a problem that could be easily resolved. He explained that complications have arisen due to delays in issuing letters of credit and a lack of proper decision-making by the Import and Export Department.
