Ravi: Former Opponents of India Now Seek Cooperation

Former Deputy Leader of the United National Party, MP Ravi Karunanayake, has pointed out that individuals who previously opposed the Indo-Lanka Agreement during the J.R. Jayewardene era are now in power and entering into agreements with India.

However, Karunanayake, representing the opposition, clarified that he would not oppose such agreements if they serve the country’s interests.

He emphasized that Sri Lanka must adopt a forward-looking approach and that it is not the time to resist or obstruct progress. The MP highlighted that India, with a market valued at 7 trillion US dollars, is set to become the third-largest economy globally within the next four years, with its market expected to reach 4 trillion US dollars by then.

Karunanayake concluded by expressing his belief that strengthening relations with India will be beneficial for Sri Lanka’s future.
