Former UNP Deputy Leader MP Ravi Karunanayake has rejected claims that former President Ranil Wickremesinghe is planning a political comeback by securing a parliamentary seat, calling such allegations baseless.
In an interview with Ceylon Wire, Karunanayake stated that these rumors are being spread by two individuals within the party who are attempting to undermine its unity.
He emphasized that it is not the UNP’s policy for a leader who has reached the highest position in the party and retired from politics to re-enter at the grassroots level.
Furthermore, he accused certain party members of acting as scapegoats, spreading false propaganda about the party leadership for political and financial gain.
Despite these internal challenges, Karunanayake stressed that with thousands of loyal members still rallying behind the UNP, unity and collective effort are essential to securing future victories.
