Former Deputy Leader of the United National Party, MP Ravi Karunanayake, criticized the government for insufficient attention to the challenges faced by small and medium-scale entrepreneurs.
Speaking to the media, the MP emphasized that despite extensive discussions about their difficulties, no effective solutions have been implemented.
He noted that small and medium-scale entrepreneurs contribute approximately 65 percent of the country’s gross domestic product but have been grappling with long-term economic problems.
MP Karunanayake also pointed out that although these issues have been repeatedly brought to the authorities’ attention, they have largely been met with mere discussions rather than concrete action.
He added that the impact of COVID-19 restrictions and subsequent interest rate challenges have resulted in many entrepreneurs losing even the limited assets they once held.
