Former Deputy Leader of the United National Party (UNP), MP Ravi Karunanayake, has alleged that despite the recent decline in inflation, the purchasing power of the public has not improved.
Addressing the media, Karunanayake claimed that the situation contrasts sharply with the policies of the UNP-led government in 2015, which, according to him, successfully reduced the prices of essential goods such as oil, rice, and lentils.
He further noted that the UNP administration at the time was not only able to lower the cost of living but also sustain the reduced prices for several years while managing the broader economy effectively.
