Former Deputy Leader of the United National Party, MP Ravi Karunanayake, has stated that not everything reported in the media reflects real-world events.
Speaking to the media, Karunanayake noted that some events that actually occur are not covered in the news, and cited this as an issue in reports about the unification of opposition political parties.
He emphasized that the role of the opposition is to give the government a defined period to act, and to take further steps if the government fails to fulfill its responsibilities.
However, the MP also acknowledged that at times, both the government and the opposition may not be following the right path.
