Former Deputy Leader of the United National Party (UNP) and Parliamentarian Ravi Karunanayake commented on the Katchathivu issue and the recurring pressures from India regarding its ownership.
Karunanayake stressed that Katchathivu is an island that rightfully belongs to Sri Lanka and that the country will not lose its sovereignty despite remarks made by certain Tamil Nadu politicians seeking electoral advantage.
He further noted that there was nothing inappropriate in the recent statement made by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake concerning Katchathivu.
The MP added that the President’s visit to the island is also a positive and encouraging step.
