Ravi Karunanayake: Prime Minister Must Be Accountable for Satellite Data Statements

August 17, 2025

Former Deputy Leader of the United National Party, MP Ravi Karunanayake, has stated that officials holding high positions, including the Prime Minister, must be held accountable for the statements they make.

Speaking to the media, Karunanayake was commenting on the controversy surrounding the Prime Minister’s presentation of data from the Board of Investment regarding the Supreme Sat satellite to Parliament.

He noted that conflicting opinions are currently circulating about the information and emphasized that the Prime Minister, as the presenter, bears responsibility for its accuracy.

“When a person in a high official position makes a statement, it must be accurate and reliable. If contradictions are found, a correction must be issued,” the MP said, highlighting the need for accountability and transparency in government communications.
