Former Deputy Leader of the United National Party and Member of Parliament Ravi Karunanayake has strongly criticized the current Procurement Committee, stating that it is no longer suitable for the country’s needs.
Speaking in Parliament, Karunanayake emphasized the urgent need to reform and update the committee under the present government, warning that its inefficiency is having a detrimental impact—particularly on the pharmaceutical supply sector.
“The way the Procurement Committee functions today is seriously affecting the timely delivery of essential medicines,” he said.
The MP further warned that unless decisive action is taken this year to reform the committee, the same problems will persist into the next year, continuing to burden the healthcare system and the economy.
