Sri Lanka’s geographical position gives it significant global importance and should be utilized to transform the country into a global hub, says former Deputy Leader of the United National Party (UNP), MP Ravi Karunanayake.
Speaking to the media, Karunanayake emphasized that Sri Lanka’s foreign policy of maintaining cooperation with all parties can be effectively anchored on its strategic location.
He cautioned that disputes with the United States over tariffs could undermine Sri Lanka’s access to global markets, stressing that maintaining strong ties with Washington is vital for economic growth.
The MP added that implementing a zero-tariff policy with the U.S. would create greater market opportunities for Sri Lanka by expanding access to the American market.
