Former Deputy Leader of the United National Party (UNP), MP Ravi Karunanayake, has called on government officials to engage with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) regarding measures to strengthen Sri Lanka’s economy.
Speaking to the media, Karunanayake emphasized that officials should clearly explain the country’s current economic situation to the IMF and seek export-related incentives. He highlighted the importance of reducing expenses in the export sector, including lowering taxes, as part of these discussions.
The MP noted that such strategies have been successfully adopted by countries like Vietnam, Malaysia, Mauritius, India, and South Korea, and stressed that similar measures are essential for Sri Lanka at this time.
