Former Deputy Leader of the United National Party (UNP) Parliamentarian Ravi Karunanayake says that debt repayment problems will arise if there is no strong economy in the country.
He said this while speaking in Parliament yesterday.
“We need to look into how we can repay the loans we have taken. Government institutions need to look into this matter. Even if the economy collapses due to our country going bankrupt, the government needs to take action on this matter. The President stated that it is necessary to take foreign loans rather than domestic loans to build the expressway. We need to look into the situation where we can repay the loans after taking them.” He said there.
“The government needs to repay the loans from April 2028. There needs to be a good economy for that. An amount of Rs. 1,410 billion has been minted so far,” he added.
