Rear Seatbelt Use Now Compulsory for Expressway Travel, Authorities Announce

Beginning tomorrow (August 1), wearing seatbelts will be mandatory for all rear-seat passengers in light vehicles travelling on expressways, Transport Minister Bimal Ratnayake announced.

The decision aims to enhance road safety and minimise the risk of serious injuries in the event of accidents, the Minister said, adding that enforcement measures will be in place to ensure strict compliance with the new regulation.
