Former Deputy Leader of the United National Party (UNP), MP Ravi Karunanayake, has emphasized that unity is essential to rebuilding the party, which he described as being in a state of collapse.
Speaking to the media, Karunanayake asserted that, as one of the party’s most senior members, he should not be removed. “It is not those of us who have dedicated our lives to the party who should be sidelined, but rather those who remain within the party while working to destroy it from within,” he said.
He stressed that the current priority must be the revival of the UNP through collective effort. “Those who genuinely love the party must come together to restore its strength and integrity,” he added.
Karunanayake also called on all opposition representatives to adopt a more flexible stance, engage in dialogue, and unite for a renewed political journey.
