The Disaster Management Centre Sri Lanka (DMC) says the ‘Red’ landslide warnings previously issued for several districts have now been lifted, allowing evacuated residents to return home after safety assessments.
DMC Director Pradeep Kodippili said the National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) has maintained ‘Red’ landslide warnings only for a few Divisional Secretariat divisions in the Kandy District.
He confirmed that steps have been taken to facilitate the safe return of displaced families in areas where conditions have stabilised.
“As of this morning, only the Somawathiya road is reported to be inundated. Other roads have been restored,” Kodippili said, adding that authorities had carried out evacuations where necessary and allowed residents to return after confirming safety.
Meanwhile, he assured that the Department of Examinations Sri Lanka will proceed with the G.C.E. Ordinary Level examination as scheduled today (23).
“The O/L examination will be held as planned. The DMC and the Department of Examinations are implementing a coordinated response plan in case of any emergency,” he said.
Kodippili noted that authorities are prepared to provide immediate assistance, including transporting students safely to examination centres and ensuring uninterrupted exam activities.
He added that all Emergency Operation Centres remain fully operational, with personnel attached to the 117 emergency hotline, district disaster management units, the Tri-Forces, Police, and technical teams on standby to respond to any developing situation.
The DMC also urged the public to remain vigilant and closely follow official weather forecasts and advisories.
