The U.S. Embassy in Sri Lanka, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and the Department of Archaeology, celebrated the reopening of the former Kandyan King’s Palace and Museum of Archaeology following its extensive renovation today (11).
The restoration project was funded through the U.S. Ambassador’s Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP).
The initiative not only aimed to preserve this significant historical site but also focused on improving accessibility for visitors with disabilities.
Speaking at the event, U.S. Ambassador Julie Chung highlighted the importance of cultural preservation, emphasizing that the project reflects Sri Lanka’s rich heritage and contributes to enhancing cultural tourism.
Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs Minister Hiniduma Sunil Senevi also commended the effort, praising the program’s focus on accessibility and its role in enriching educational opportunities at the museum.
