The State Trading Corporation (STC) has announced that the distribution of the rice stock ordered by the government will commence today via Lanka Sathosa and Cooperative outlets.
According to Ravindra Fernando, Chairman of the STC, the first consignment of 780 metric tons of rice has already arrived in the country. Of this, 200 metric tons will be distributed through Lanka Sathosa outlets.
Chairman Fernando also stated that tenders have been called and finalized for an additional order of 26,000 metric tons of rice to ensure continued supply.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Customs confirmed that 80,000 metric tons of rice ordered by the private sector have already been released to the market, further boosting availability.
